From Preemie to Three
Then and now.
Three years ago as I was editing a maternity session, I received news that my mama-to-be had gone into labour early. I had only seen her five days prior! This sweet little girl was welcomed into the world weeks before she was due, weighing in at only a few pounds. It was a shock to me and the family indeed!
At the beginning of a preemie’s life, the difficult journey is often documented within an incubator and a hospital setting. Sometimes in mom or dad’s seemingly gigantic hands. We see tiny tubes attached to tiny baby. An even smaller hospital bracelet with baby’s brand new name. In these photos there is strength and hope. It documents the obstacles baby must overcome before he or she can go home. Sometimes days or months are spent with nurses in a hospital, with family visiting as much as they can. It’s one of the most difficult things any parent can go through. But with the photos captured then they now beam with joy at how far their little one has come.
I’ve had the honour of photographing Mia’s newborn portraits and her milestones along the way. Happy birthday little lady! You are a bright star and I adore your dance moves.
